Opera Journey At A Glance

Opera was for centuries the most popular forms of entertainment in Western culture. Because of this popularity were written thousands of amazing opera plays and thousands of great performances were given in biggest European capital cities. Opera works combine theater and classical music. Women starring in opera plays are divided to contralto, mezzo soprano and soprano. Men starring in opera performances are divided to bass, baritone, tenor and countertenor. 

For many opera appears for the very first time during Italian baroque era and with the Italian composer's Peri opera Dafne. The Baroque era is taking place around 1.600 and 1.750. 

During the 18th century famous classic composer Mozart changes the opera scenery and forms the classical era for opera, which continues to exist till nowadays. 

Of course there is the amazing Romantic era of the opera with greats Verdi and Wagner changing the classical landscape in those times. Verdi created and left us an amazing legacy with opera works like Rigoletto, il Trovatore, and La Traviata. Wagner did more than compose music. He wrote libretos, he designed costumes, he directed performances and conducted orchestras.

Last but not least as it concerns opera plays and great composers we couldn't forgot to make a mention to great Giacomo Puccini and his large impact. Puccini composed drama and areas like La Boheme, Tosca and Madama Butterfly. These plays made him the absolute opera star!
